As you may already know, Austin Reed for Women is out of business. The Austin Reed line found in the United Kingdom/England is not the same line as what was sold here as they were completely unrelated companies and only shared a common name.
Due to our success with the Austin Reed line, and the many requests from our customers, we have introduced our own line of tailored clothing: Alex St. Claire. Since we first introduced the line in the spring of 2010, we have sold over 1500 units which is a quite amazing when you consider we are only one store in North Carolina.
Alex St. Claire is based in part on some of the Austin Reed styles but we have made some changes which you can read about in the individual menus. However this is not the Austin Reed line and we are using different fabrics and some of the detailing may be a bit different. The biggest change was that we decided not to offer the old "Andover" style single breasted coat as we found it too boxy with a not very flattering fit. Our own "jill" jacket is a completely new style and much more attractive.
Fabrics:
All fabrics are 100% wool and most are considered year round in weight, though some are lighter than others and may be more seasonal appropriate. If you have any questions please feel free to call. We are also happy to send you fabric samples.
All fabrics can be worn either as a suit, or as separate pieces. All fabrics are of limited quantity and we do not guarantee that we can match pieces for future production. If you think you would like a suit, we strongly suggest buying the pieces at the same time so that all pieces will be dye lot matched. We are purposely buying small runs of fabric so that we can always be offering new looks and colors.
Our Goal: To offer women the same kind of quality construction and fabrics that men have been able to purchase from us for many years. We are using menswear quality fabrics and making all styles with fully alterable seams as is found on our men's clothing. The pants will come with unfinished bottoms as do our men's pants.
All production is being made in New York City as we are committed to having our line made domestically.
